6.12.02 Amendments to ABP Order and Composting released by DEFRA for consultation

Composters voiced fears that the Draft Consultation Document on the Animal By-product Order was too prescriptive and would impact seriously on smaller operators at The Composting Association Annual Conference last week. Environment Minister Michael Meacher said that the development of strong rules will allow for the composting of catering waste as long as it is economical and is not a risk to animal of public health. His comments must raise questions as to the relevance of composting as a catering waste solution after the enforcement of the ABP Order.
