4.12 02 Landfill Levy set to rise £££

In his pre-budget report the Chancellor Gordon Brown announced a series of measures intended to protect the environment, with plans for the future of landfill tax top of the list. He reiterated that the Landfill Tax escalator will be raised by £1 per year until 2004-5, with a £3 per tonne increase announced for 2005-6. Many commentators are doubtful that these increases are the end of the story, however and believe that his stated long term aim of £35 per tonne from its current £13 will be seen much sooner than expected.
