8.11.02 Ground broken for Project Delta!

In keeping with Waddington Waste’s total commitment to environmental improvement and care for our immediate neighbours, work started today on the construction of a state-of-the-art system for emissions control.

Project Delta, as it was grandly dubbed by the main contractor, is a
£million plus improvement to the present odour control system by the incorporation of a Thermal Oxidiser for the treatment of gases from the process. The thermal oxidation process is recognised as an effective odour and effluent solution for the requirements placed upon major rendering facilities to comply with operational licences and approvals. The oxidation process recovers energy in the form of steam from a waste heat recovery boiler. This will provide the base duty for site steam demands whilst utilising existing steam boilers to cater for peaks in production. Further heat will be recovered by the use of a combustion air pre-heater in the exhaust stream after the boiler to maximise the overall thermal efficiency of the process. The plant is a bespoke design to suit the individual needs of Waddington Waste and our process, such that effluent destruction and steam demand are closely matched.

The Thermal Oxidiser system consists of a number of integrated components to ensure efficient odour control and waste heat recovery.

> Effluent vapour extraction from cooker sources
> Foul air extraction from high intensity odour point extraction sources
> Effective control to minimise fugitive odour from process equipment
> Control integration with cooker plant and other systems where required
> Selection of efficient oxidation temperature for effective odour control
> Specialist burner technology – multi-fuel capable
> Specialist waste heat recovery devices matched to the cooking process
> Specialist fan design for efficient extraction of odours
> Oxidation zone designed for maximum efficiency
> Fully automatic control systems
> Automatic alarm and safety systems
After full heat recovery, the treated exhaust stream passes directly to atmosphere.

Once again our investment in the finest systems money can buy confirm our commitment to environmental protection and the comfort and welfare of our near neighbours.
